Starting a new hobby can be intimidating, but the first step of learning something new is willing to be really bad at it. Slowly, over time, I plan on becoming really good at watercolor painting. I’m not there yet, but you can join me on the journey. I have drawings that you can download and print, and I would like to see your progress too! I’ll post a painting or two every month, and I can post a couple of yours too, with permission. Starting out is the hardest part, but over time it will be less painful. Art is hard, but the difficulty is what makes it so much fun. If it weren’t challenging, most people would quit after a couple of months. Even professional artists develop the craft over a lifetime. Watercolors are not required either. Use whatever you have on hand, whether that be colored pencils, markers, crayons, or even just an ink pen. Let’s wind down from your day, and let’s take some time to go analog for a bit. Better yet, if you have kids, have them join in on the fun too. They probably already have too much screen time anyway.
Each month I’m going to release ten drawings of random things centered around a theme, and then paint a couple of them. The drawings are made in pencil, so if you put watercolor paper through the bypass tray of your printer, the lines won’t show as much. Feel free to use cardstock or any other type of copy paper that you have on hand. I’ll also do a little research and write about each drawing as I complete them. Research and information brings context to the painting/drawing, and helps when trying to draw something. I’ll try to keep the research and writing brief, but I’m not going to make any promises. I am that person that knows too much trivia than I know what to do with, and once I getting going, it’s hard to shut me up. Okay, so I’m going to take the hint, and wrap it up right now. Take some time to peruse the watercolor collection, print out as many copies as you want, and show and tell when you get the chance!
